Hello DIS Families,
Fire House Open House
Tomorrow is Delran
Township’s Fire Department’s Open House from 11:00 until 3:00. There
will be tours and demonstrations, opportunities to learn about fire
safety as well as information about becoming a volunteer.
Week of Respect
October 6-10th
is the “Week of Respect” in schools throughout NJ. We will be doing a
number of activities at school that focus on this topic, including daily
announcements, a special read aloud and watching some short clips about
this topic.
Conferences
A
separate email will be sent this evening with directions on how to
schedule your child’s conference. Please follow the directions to
schedule your child’s conference.
Intervention and Enrichment
We apologize for the delay. The name of the I&E teacher(s) is now available in Parent Portal.
FASTT Math and SRC Update
Our
technology team has worked diligently to resolve the issues related
that were occurring when students tried to access these programs through
the Application portals. Students should be able to access these
programs from the STUDENT tab on the DIS website or through
applications. Please let us know if you encounter any problems and we
will be happy to assist you.
BLOGS
On
Friday, October 10th, students will be submitting their first blog
entry. Every other week, students will compose an entry about either
their independent reading book or a topic assigned by their teacher(s).
As part of the Common Core standards, students are expected to be able
to utilize their keyboarding skills to produce a full page in 3rd grade
and two pages in 4th and 5th in a single setting. By utilizing the
blogging feature, our hope is that students will gain practice in both
their reading and keyboarding skills. Students that are unable to
utilize the blogging feature from home will be provided opportunities to
blog during the after-school academic support sessions.
When your
child is drafting his or her response, you may want to suggest that
they write and save the draft in a program such as Word then copy and
paste the writing into the comment box. This also allows students to use
the spell check and grammar check tools.
When blogs are
submitted, your child’s teacher(s) receive an email notification and
must approve the entry before it can be seen. This allows us to control
and review the information that is posted on the blogs. Please be
advised that the blogs will not appear on the website, until they are
approved.
Halloween Parade
Although
it is several weeks away, it is never to early to plan for one of our
favorite events. Once again, we will have two busses driving between DIS
and Millbridge as a convenience for parents (so you don’t need to try
and find a parking spot twice). Shuttles depart from Millbridge to DIS
at 10:15. Shuttles from DIS to Millbridge depart at 11:00. Then,
shuttles return to DIS at approx. 11:50. The DIS parade will start at
10:30 sharp. The Millbridge parade starts at 11:15.

which allows us to offer many services to our students and schools.
Additionally, if you have not already returned payment for your Kid
Stuff books or the book, please do so.
We hope to see everyone tonight at our Fall Festival at DMS. Please remember your canned food donation.
