11/7/14

Hello DIS Families,

Fall Fundraiser Pick-Up

Fall fundraiser items will be delivered to the Millbridge cafeteria this coming Wednesday, Nov 12th. Items will be available for pick up from 4:00 pm to 7:30pm. If you placed an order, please make arrangements to get it. Thank you for supporting the school and PTA.

Food Drive

We will be collecting non-perishable cans and food items that will be donated to the Knights of Columbus. The items will be collected for two weeks: starting Nov. 3 and ending Nov. 14. Our goal is for each child to bring in one item. Every student that brings in one item will receive a raffle ticket. Students who bring in more than one item do not get an additional ticket, although more donations are always appreciated.

  • The purpose of the raffle is to encourage the students to participate in the food drive. At the end of the food drive, three students will be picked, one from each grade level. (3rd, 4th, and 5th) The raffle will take place November 14 in the afternoon.
  • The three winners will go to Target (Date TBA) on a bus during the school day with a few members from the committee to experience giving back. They will be lucky enough to select toys that will be purchased for Toys for Tots, using ½ of the profits from the December pretzel sale.
  • Parents will be notified if there child is picked from the raffle.

American Education Week

American Education Week is designed to offer parents the opportunity to visit the school and observe their child in the classroom and experience the many exciting programs and activities in which our students participate on a daily basis.

American Education Week visitation is scheduled on Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 9:15-10:15 in our even-numbered homerooms and on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 9:15-10:15 in our odd-numbered homerooms. All parents are invited to participate.  In order to maintain a safe and structured learning environment, we have assigned a specific time for visitation.

If you intend to visit us for American Education Week, kindly email your child’s teacher by Friday, November 14, 2014 so that your teacher can send you home a pass.

All visitors are to enter the building through the main lobby.  To allow us to maintain a structured learning environment younger siblings and children are not permitted to attend during the classroom visitations.

Reflections

PTA Reflections Program is here again.  This year’s theme is “The world would be a better place if…”  For those of you not familiar with Reflections, it is a National PTA program that allows students to express themselves creatively.  There are six categories in which the students can enter: literature; musical composition; photography; visual arts; dance choreography and film/video production.  They are judged in five divisions: Primary (Preschool-2 grade) Intermediate (grade 3-5) Middle-Junior (grade 6-8) and Senior (9-12) Special Arts (non-graded). This is for students who meet the guidelines of the American Disabilities Act.)

Each entry must be the work of ONE student. Students may submit multiple entries.  All entries are due November 20th.  All participants will receive a free snack coupon to be used in the cafeteria.  All entries will be judged at the local level.  Local winners will receive a prize from the Elementary PTA.   Winning entries will also move onto county level judging. County winners move forward to the state level and state winners to the national level.

There is information, complete set of rules for each category and entry forms in the Virtual Backpack- October.
