1/9/15

Hello DIS Families,

Give a Kid a Smile- Friday, February 6, 2015

The GKAS program in New Jersey is the culmination of the efforts of several different organizations under the direction of the New Jersey Dental Association.  Each February, the entire dental community, both public and private sectors, comes together to ensure the delivery of care to thousands of underprivileged children who otherwise may not be able to afford or access care.

Services rendered include oral hygiene instruction, screenings, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, extractions, fluoride treatments, stainless steel crowns, and much more.

Volunteers work to ensure the program is fun and educational and that it gives many children a great first impression of visits to the dentists.

And, best of all, all procedures are 100% FREE. Please visit  https://www.njda.org/menus/for-parents.html which has some helpful FAQ’s for parents.  If you are interested in taking advantage of this great program, please make an appointment at the location of your choice as soon as you can, since appointments are limited.

Reading Logs and Study Island

Starting this month, students will utilize Study Island each week rather than completing the blog entry on the website. This will eliminate some of the problems encountered with the website’s blogging feature. Students will still respond to their books, but will do so using Study Island. Students will be able to revise, edit and see that their work is done more easily using the same tools that are used in the classroom and during computer class. Parents will be able to easily confirm that their student has completed the work. The SRC points will be used as an incentive program only. Students are encouraged to try and reach the minimum point goal at each grade level.

Recorders (3rd grade parents)

Instruction on Recorders is scheduled will begin shortly. The deadline for order is January20th. Every third grade student is will receive instruction on how to play the recorder. Please note that students are permitted to bring their own recorder to use if they have one at home. Students who did not purchase a recorder or already own one will be given a recorder to use at school. If you need another form, please have your child stop in the main office.

4th Grade Parents- Young Consumer Program and Parent Night Information

We are inviting parents and 4th grade students to attend a Family Night to be held in the Delran Intermediate School cafeteria on Thursday, January 22 from 7PM- 8PM.  At this time, you will be introduced to the program and students will demonstrate the activities they are using to practice their skills.

Input Needed

A number of teachers have been working with us to create a plan for the upcoming PARCC assessments. In January, Mrs. Gringeri, our Director of Curriculum, and the DIS administration would like to obtain parental feedback before we finalize our plans. We will be holding two meetings. The first will be on January 15th at 10:45 in the DIS library. The second will be on January 28th at 3:00 in the DIS library. If you are interested in attending, please contact Mrs. Lowe at [email protected]
